Vivek Chaturvedi, IRS Takes Over as Chairman, CBIC

Vivek Chaturvedi, a senior IRS officer of the 1990 batch, has taken charge as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), effective December 1. His appointment marks a significant leadership transition in India’s indirect tax and customs administration.

With an accomplished career of more than three decades, Chaturvedi brings extensive experience in vigilance, compliance, indirect tax policy, and revenue administration. He has served in several key roles within the Department of Revenue and CBIC, contributing to major reforms aimed at strengthening tax governance, improving transparency, and enhancing operational efficiency.

In his new role, he is expected to guide the Board’s ongoing priorities, including GST system improvements, enforcement modernisation, digital integration, and trade facilitation initiatives.

Vivek Chaturvedi has officially assumed office and will lead CBIC’s strategic direction moving forward.
