After nearly one and a half years, the leadership of Ujjain Municipal Corporation returns to the hands of an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The Madhya Pradesh government has appointed IAS Abhilash Mishra, a 2017 batch officer, as the new Municipal Commissioner of Ujjain.
Mishra is expected to take charge on Tuesday, succeeding Municipal Commissioner Ashish Pathak, who has been transferred and posted as Deputy Transport Commissioner in Indore.
The decision was part of a broader administrative reshuffle announced on Monday, which included the transfer of several Indian Administrative and State Administrative Service officers across the state.
Abhilash Mishra, known for his efficiency and proactive governance, was serving as Additional Commissioner in Indore Municipal Corporation prior to this appointment. His administrative experience spans across multiple key roles — he previously served as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Mahidpur, CEO of Mhow Janpad Panchayat, and CEO of Betul Zila Panchayat.
Notably, this is not Mishra’s first posting in Ujjain district. His brief but impactful tenure as SDM in Mahidpur left a positive impression on local stakeholders, and his return in a more senior capacity is being welcomed by civic and administrative circles alike.
With Ujjain’s urban development and public services agenda picking up pace, the appointment of a dynamic IAS officer is expected to bring renewed momentum to the city’s governance and citizen-centric reforms.
