In a significant administrative transition, 2020-batch IAS officer Aojasvi Raj has officially assumed charge as the new Municipal Commissioner of the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation. Widely recognized for his innovative approach to governance and stellar administrative competence, his appointment has raised expectations for major civic advancements in one of India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations. Stepping into this vital leadership role, Raj is expected to inject fresh energy and a results-driven strategy into the development and daily management of the twin holy cities.
Raj brings a stellar academic and professional foundation to his new office, having been born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9, 1992. He completed his initial schooling in Meerut before pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur, and subsequently earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Delhi. Before entering the elite civil services, he proved his merit by securing All India Rank 9 in the parliamentary examination to work as an Executive Officer in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, later securing All India Rank 227 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination to join the IAS 2020 batch.
His career history reflects a strong dedication to impactful public service, beginning with training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and followed by valuable postings at both central and state levels. He previously served as an Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and as a Joint Magistrate in Meerut. Notably, during his tenure as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Ballia, Raj won widespread praise for driving local entrepreneurship by enhancing the packaging, branding, and market distribution of traditional sattu, heavily benefiting rural livelihoods and local farmers.
Now leading the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation, Raj stands at the forefront of tackling the extensive civic demands of a sacred region that hosts millions of global visitors annually. The municipality is currently navigating several pressing challenges, including modernizing sanitation management, traffic flow optimization, strict encroachment control, infrastructure building, and environmental conservation. With his reputation for efficient governance, his leadership is highly anticipated to successfully deliver a upgraded, sustainable experience for both residents and pilgrims.
