Chacko Mazhuvanchery Jose Recommended as BPCL Director (Refineries)

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Chacko Mazhuvanchery Jose for appointment as Director (Refineries) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Maharatna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Jose is currently serving as Executive Director, Kochi Refinery, BPCL, and brings more than 35 years of experience in the petroleum refining sector. Over the course of his career, he has handled key responsibilities across refinery operations, technical services, projects, energy management and environmental functions. He has also previously headed BPCL’s Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh.

He was recommended for the board-level position following a selection meeting conducted by PESB on August 21, 2026, during which 12 senior executives from BPCL, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Engineers India Limited were interviewed.

A Chemical Engineering graduate from Government Engineering College, Thrissur, Jose also holds an MBA from Cochin University of Science and Technology. His extensive experience across refining operations and major projects has given him expertise in managing complex refinery environments and large-scale operational initiatives.

As Director (Refineries), Jose is expected to oversee BPCL’s refinery operations while contributing to major expansion and modernisation projects. The role will also involve supporting the company’s broader strategic priorities in areas such as petrochemicals, energy transition and green energy.

The recommendation is subject to the prescribed approval process, including consideration by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). If approved, Jose will take over the key board-level responsibility currently being held as additional charge by BPCL CMD Sanjay Khanna.
