Empowering Rural India: Amit Shah to Dedicate 10,000+ M-PACS, Dairy, and Fisheries Cooperatives

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, will dedicate over 10,000 newly established Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (M-PACS), Dairy, and Fisheries Cooperatives to the nation at a grand national conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, December 25.

A Historic Event to Boost Rural Development

The event, hosted at the ICAR Convention Centre, Pusa, New Delhi, will see Shri Amit Shah distribute Registration Certificates, RuPay Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), and Micro ATMs to these cooperative societies. This move aims to provide easy access to credit and promote financial inclusion, empowering rural communities to participate actively in India’s economic growth.

Government’s Vision: A Cooperative Society in Every Panchayat

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Cooperation, guided by Shri Amit Shah, is driving a transformative mission to establish cooperative societies in every Panchayat. This initiative seeks to foster local development, self-reliance, and economic empowerment, especially in rural India.

Multi-Faceted Role of M-PACS

The newly formed M-PACS will serve as engines of rural progress by:

  • Providing financial services.
  • Supporting dairy and fisheries cooperatives.
  • Offering a platform for collaborative community efforts.
  • Promoting sustainable agriculture and additional income sources for farmers.

Women-Led Panchayats and Community Empowerment

Special emphasis is being placed on empowering women-led Panchayats through these cooperatives. Shri Amit Shah recently highlighted the pivotal role of cooperative societies in India’s rural economy, particularly in the Northeast, focusing on employment generation, financial inclusion, and the growth of agriculture and cottage industries.

Conference Highlights

The national conference will host around 1,200 delegates, including representatives from M-PACS, dairy, and fisheries cooperatives. Key discussions will revolve around:

  • Enhancing the operational efficiency of cooperative societies.
  • Stabilizing rural livelihoods.
  • Promoting sustainable practices in agriculture and allied sectors.

A Roadmap to Rural Prosperity

Since its establishment in July 2021, the Ministry of Cooperation has introduced new model bye-laws to strengthen the viability of PACS. With the issuance of the ‘Margdarshika’ in September 2024, the government aims to establish two lakh new M-PACS nationwide, bringing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Sehkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation) closer to reality.

Impressive Progress So Far

Among the 10,496 newly created cooperative societies, 3,523 are M-PACS, 6,288 are dairy cooperatives, and 685 are fisheries cooperatives, already making a significant impact on rural livelihoods.

This historic event will mark a major milestone in revitalizing India’s cooperative movement, paving the way for a self-reliant and prosperous rural economy.
