Ensuring Seamless Connectivity for the Digital Maha Kumbh Mela 2025: Telecom Infrastructure Takes Center Stage in Prayagraj

As the worldโ€™s largest religious gathering, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 draws millions of devotees to Prayagraj, and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), in collaboration with telecom service providers, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure flawless communication for attendees. With a vast expansion of telecom infrastructure, this year’s Mela will be equipped to handle the massive influx of visitors, providing efficient, high-speed connectivity across the city, Mela area, and public spaces.

Major Telecom Infrastructure Upgrades Across Prayagraj

To support seamless communication, over 900 new Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), 1,550 BTS upgrades, 78 transportable towers, 150 small cell solutions, and 300+ kilometers of optical fiber have been deployed across the city and Mela area. These efforts aim to offer uninterrupted service to millions of attendees, ensuring smooth access to mobile-based services, digital payments, and live-streamed rituals.

Enhanced Connectivity in Prayagraj City

The DoT has laid 126 kilometers of optical fiber throughout Prayagraj to bolster the city’s telecom infrastructure. With the installation of 328 new towers and 575 new BTS units, including the upgrade of 1,462 existing units, visitors can expect a stable and reliable network experience during the event.

Strengthening Connectivity in the Mela Area

With an anticipated surge in crowd numbers, the Mela area will see 192 kilometers of optical fiber and the addition of 352 new BTS units. To tackle the unique challenges of high-density areas, 78 transportable towers and 150 small cell solutions are being deployed to guarantee robust coverage, no matter how crowded the space.

Optimizing Telecom Across Public Spaces and Highways

Key transport hubs, public spaces, and highways leading to Prayagraj are also being optimized to ensure reliable telecom services. Special attention has been given to the Green Corridor, a critical route for smooth traffic flow, ensuring the network performs optimally in high-traffic zones.

Empowering Citizens with Telecom Help Desks

A total of 53 help desks will be stationed across the Mela area, offering services such as reporting fraudulent communications and blocking lost or stolen phones. The publicโ€™s safety and convenience remain a top priority with these user-centric initiatives.

Cell Broadcast Alerts for Public Safety

A Cell Broadcast Alert system has been installed to send emergency notifications, disaster warnings, and vital public messages in real-time, keeping attendees informed and safe throughout the event.

Disaster Management Preparedness

In collaboration with telecom giants Airtel, BSNL, Jio, and Vi, three disaster management centers have been set up within the Mela area. These centers are equipped with cutting-edge technology to maintain communication and provide a swift response in case of emergencies.
