In a strategic move to advance digital governance and enhance public service efficiency, the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to establish three Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centres of Excellence in Nagpur, Mumbai, and Pune. The initiative is poised to drive AI-driven innovation in governance, law enforcement, and forensic research.
The collaboration will focus on leveraging AI to improve transparency, operational efficiency, and digital transformation in various government departments. These AI Centres of Excellence will play a crucial role in integrating cutting-edge technology to streamline governance processes, strengthen law enforcement mechanisms, and advance forensic research capabilities.
As part of the agreement, government employees will receive AI training and certification through Microsoft’s MS Learn platform, equipping them with essential AI skills to effectively implement technology-driven solutions in administrative and security frameworks.
Speaking on the development, a senior GoM official emphasized the significance of AI in modern governance. “This partnership with Microsoft is a significant step towards harnessing AI for efficient and transparent governance. It will not only optimize public service delivery but also enhance decision-making processes across key sectors.”
Microsoft India’s leadership expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting their commitment to supporting India’s digital transformation journey. “AI has the potential to revolutionize governance, and through this collaboration, we aim to empower government institutions with the necessary tools and expertise to drive impactful change,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.
The AI Centres of Excellence will serve as hubs for research, policy development, and technological innovation, reinforcing Maharashtra’s position as a frontrunner in AI adoption within the public sector.
