The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon to support Vishwakarma artisans by enabling greater access to digital marketplaces and modern e-commerce tools.
Under this collaboration, artisans associated with the Vishwakarma community will be onboarded onto Amazon’s platform through the Karigar initiative, helping them showcase and sell their products to a wider national and global audience. The partnership aims to enhance product visibility, improve income opportunities, and integrate traditional craftsmanship with modern digital commerce.
The initiative will provide artisans with training and support in areas such as online selling, product listing, branding, logistics, and digital payments. By leveraging Amazon’s e-commerce infrastructure, the program seeks to remove market access barriers and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for skilled artisans.
Officials from the MSME Ministry stated that the MoU aligns with the government’s vision of empowering traditional artisans, promoting self-reliance, and strengthening the MSME ecosystem through technology-driven interventions. Amazon reaffirmed its commitment to supporting small sellers and preserving India’s rich artisanal heritage by connecting craftsmen to broader consumer markets.
The partnership marks a significant step toward digitising the artisan economy, fostering inclusive growth, and ensuring that traditional skills find relevance and demand in the digital age.
