2025 Declared as ‘Year of Reforms’ by Ministry of Defence: A Leap Toward Strengthening India’s Armed Forces

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has announced that 2025 will be observed as the ‘Year of Reforms’ by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), marking a major milestone in the modernisation of India’s Armed Forces. This visionary step aims to transform the military into a technologically advanced, combat-ready force capable of conducting integrated multi-domain operations.

In a crucial meeting with MoD Secretaries, Shri Rajnath Singh outlined key areas of focus for the year ahead:

  • Strengthening Jointness & Integration: Furthering initiatives to establish Integrated Theatre Commands and enhance inter-service cooperation.
  • Harnessing Emerging Domains: Focus on Cyber, Space, and cutting-edge technologies like AI, Machine Learning, Hypersonics, and Robotics, alongside developing new tactical approaches for future warfare.
  • Optimising Acquisition Procedures: Simplifying and streamlining processes to ensure timely and efficient capability development.
  • Public-Private Partnerships: Promoting technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and easier business processes between defence and civil industries.
  • Fostering Collaboration: Breaking down silos and improving civil-military coordination to eliminate inefficiencies and optimise resources.
  • Defence Exports & Global Partnerships: Positioning India as a leading exporter of defence products, fostering innovation and collaborations with international partners.
  • Veteran Welfare: Enhancing support for veterans while tapping into their expertise for national security.
  • Celebrating Indigenous Capabilities: Instilling national pride by promoting Indian culture and military capabilities, while learning from the best global practices.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh expressed confidence that the ‘Year of Reforms’ would set the stage for unprecedented advancements in India’s defence preparedness, ensuring the security and sovereignty of the nation amid the challenges of the 21st century.
