Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of Kerala on Thursday in a grand ceremony at Raj Bhavan. He took the oath of office from Kerala High Court Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, state ministers, opposition leaders, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose, and other dignitaries.
Before assuming his new role, Arlekar, who previously served as the Governor of Bihar, made it clear that his approach is to assist, not confront, the government or administration. “Wherever I go, I don’t try to have any confrontation with the government nor with the administration. I am going there to assist the government, not to guide or pass any direction,” Arlekar stated in an official message.
On his arrival in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan welcomed the new Governor, expressing his enthusiasm for collaborating in the state’s growth and unity. “Received the newly appointed Governor of Kerala, @rajendraarlekar, at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Looking forward to working together in the spirit of Kerala’s progress and unity,” Vijayan wrote on X.
In a related development, Arif Mohammad Khan also took the oath as the Governor of Bihar on the same day.
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Arlekar as the new Governor of Kerala on December 21, also assigning Khan to Bihar. The outgoing Kerala Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan, bid farewell to the state, expressing gratitude for his tenure and emphasizing his enduring connection to Kerala, while wishing the state continued prosperity.
