Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra officially assumed command of the Indian Air Force’s prestigious Western Air Command on 1st January 2025.
Commissioned as a fighter pilot on 6th December 1986, Air Marshal Mishra boasts an impressive career with over 3000 hours of flying experience. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Pune, the Air Force Test Pilots School in Bangalore, the Air Command and Staff College in the USA, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK. With his expertise as a Fighter Combat Leader and Experimental Test Pilot, his contributions to aviation are unparalleled.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than 38 years, Air Marshal Mishra has held several key command and staff positions. His career includes roles as Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron, Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Air Officer Commanding of two frontline airbases, Director of Operational Planning and Assessment Group, Principal Director of Air Staff Requirements (ASR), Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Projects) at Air Headquarters (VB), Commandant of ASTE, and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation, and Training). Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations).
A highly decorated officer, Air Marshal Mishra has been awarded the prestigious ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ and ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ for his exceptional service.
He succeeds Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha, who retired on 31st December 2024 after more than 39 years of distinguished service with the IAF.
