Government rolls out e‑Sushrut@Clinic to digitise small‑and‑mid‑sized outpatient clinics

The Government of India has introduced e‑Sushrut@Clinic, a free, web‑based digital platform designed to support the digitisation of small‑and‑mid‑sized outpatient clinics and primary‑care facilities. The initiative, developed under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA) in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C‑DAC), aims to make digital health‑management tools accessible and affordable for India’s widespread network of single‑doctor and small‑clinic setups.
e‑Sushrut@Clinic is a lightweight, cloud‑based Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) tailored specifically for outpatient settings. It enables clinics to digitise core workflows such as patient registration, appointment‑scheduling, prescriptions, billing, pharmacy functions, and nursing‑related tracking, all through a standard web browser without heavy hardware or software investments. The platform is built to integrate with ABDM so that health records created at these clinics can be made interoperable with other facilities and digital‑health services in the ecosystem.
By providing a government‑backed, zero‑cost HMIS, the initiative is intended to lower the entry barrier for smaller healthcare providers wanting to adopt digital systems. The Union Health Secretary has highlighted that there has long been a demand for a trusted, low‑cost, easy‑to‑use digital solution for outpatient clinics, and e‑Sushrut@Clinic is positioned as that bridge between grassroots medical practice and the broader digital‑health infrastructure. Providers can register via the Health Facility Registry (HFR) and Health Professionals Registry (HPR), and start using the platform quickly with minimal technical setup.
The move is also expected to improve continuity of care and data‑driven policy‑making, as digitised, standards‑aligned clinic‑level data can be aggregated and used to inform public‑health planning. Over time, e‑Sushrut@Clinic is projected to support tens of thousands of doctors and clinic managers nationwide, strengthening the implementation of ABDM and helping India build a more connected, transparent, and patient‑centric digital‑health environment.
