Ministry of Railways Assigns Additional Responsibility to RVNL Chief
Saleem Ahmad, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director of IRCON International Limited by the Ministry of Railways.
The additional charge will be effective from July 1, 2026, following the superannuation of the current IRCON CMD, Hari Mohan Gupta, who is set to retire on June 30.
Additional Charge for One Year
According to an official communication issued by the Ministry of Railways on June 23, Ahmad will hold the additional responsibility for a period of one year from the date of assumption of charge, or until a regular incumbent assumes office, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment ensures continuity in leadership at IRCON International, one of India’s leading railway infrastructure and engineering companies.
Extensive Experience in Infrastructure Development
Saleem Ahmad assumed charge as CMD of RVNL on December 23, 2025. Prior to this role, he served as Director (Projects) at NBCC (India) Limited and held several key leadership positions across major infrastructure organizations.
A Civil Engineering graduate from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, Ahmad brings more than 35 years of experience in the construction and infrastructure sector.
Throughout his career, he has been associated with the execution of large-scale infrastructure projects, including bridges, tunnels, transportation systems, and residential and commercial developments.
Leadership Roles at NBCC and DMRC
Before joining NBCC, Ahmad served as Executive Director (Civil) at Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), where he played a significant role in the execution of critical urban transportation infrastructure projects.
He has also worked with Mumbai Port Trust and contributed to several landmark infrastructure initiatives during his professional journey.
His expertise spans project planning, engineering execution, transportation infrastructure development, and sustainable construction practices.
Continued Focus on Rail Infrastructure Growth
With Ahmad now leading RVNL and additionally taking charge of IRCON, two of India’s key railway infrastructure organizations will benefit from his extensive project execution and infrastructure management experience.
His appointment comes at a time when the Indian railways sector continues to witness significant investment in modernization, connectivity enhancement, and large-scale infrastructure expansion projects across the country.
