AI Impact Summit 2026: New Delhi Declaration Ushers in Equitable AI Era

The AI Impact Summit 2026, hosted in New Delhi on February 18-19, has wrapped up triumphantly with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact, endorsed by 88 countries and international organizations. This landmark gathering, inspired by the ancient Indian principle of “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” (Welfare for all, Happiness for all), charts a bold path for global AI cooperation, ensuring its benefits reach every corner of humanity.
Structured around seven foundational pillars—or “Chakras”—the Declaration addresses
critical areas like human capital development, social empowerment, trustworthy AI systems, energy efficiency, AI in science, democratization of resources, and economic growth. It calls for equitable access to AI, emphasizing robust digital infrastructure and affordable connectivity as prerequisites for innovation, in line with “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
Key deliverables emerged from the Summit, including the Charter for the Democratic
Diffusion of AI is a voluntary framework promoting access to foundational resources while
respecting national laws. The Global AI Impact Commons will enable the scaling of successful AI use cases across sectors and regions, fostering replicability and adaptability.
Complementing this, the Trusted AI Commons offers tools, benchmarks, and best practices
for secure, robust systems, alongside an International Network of AI for Science Institutions to pool global research capabilities.
Further initiatives spotlight social upliftment through the AI for Social Empowerment
A platform that facilitates knowledge exchange for inclusive adoption. The AI Workforce Development Playbook and Reskilling Principles aim to equip individuals with skills for an
AI-driven economy, while Guiding Principles on Resilient & Efficient AI tackle energy
demands and infrastructure resilience. A Playbook on Advancing Resilient AI Infrastructure
serves as a practical reference.
Participants recommitted to multistakeholder engagement, respecting sovereignty, and
advancing open-source applications where suitable to drive economic and social progress.
The Declaration positions AI as a catalyst for prosperity, with voluntary guidelines like those
on reskilling and efficiency paving the way for concrete actions. Endorsements from nations
including India, USA, UK, Japan, Germany, France, and organizations like the EU and IFAD
underscore its global resonance.
This Summit not only strengthens international ties but also sets a collaborative blueprint for an AI future that prioritizes humanity’s shared aspirations, promising innovation, trust, and inclusive growth.
