Lucknow, April 9, 2025 — In a significant move aimed at bolstering India’s growing technology ecosystem, IBM India has announced plans to establish a cutting-edge Software Lab in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The new facility will focus on developing advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions, including generative and agentic AI powered by Large and Small Language Models (LLMs and SLMs).
The decision marks a major milestone for Lucknow, further positioning the city as a rising tech hub in northern India. This will be IBM’s latest addition to its expanding network of innovation centers across the country, following recent launches in Gandhinagar, Kochi, Mysuru, and Bhubaneswar.
“We are excited to bring IBM’s global expertise to Lucknow,” said Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India & South Asia. “Our new Software Lab will not only drive AI innovation but also help nurture a new generation of tech talent in Uttar Pradesh.”
The lab is expected to play a key role in designing and deploying AI-driven enterprise solutions tailored for global markets. It will also support collaboration with government bodies, academic institutions, and startups, aligning with India’s vision for a digital-first economy.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the move, calling it “a landmark development that reaffirms the state’s emergence as a preferred destination for high-tech investment.”
The establishment of the lab is anticipated to create hundreds of new job opportunities in the region, particularly in software engineering, AI research, and cloud computing.
As IBM continues to deepen its commitment to India, the Lucknow lab will serve as a strategic node in its global R&D network, bringing cutting-edge innovation closer to one of India’s fastest-growing states.
