New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact Gains 91 Signatories

The New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact, adopted at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi on February 18–19, has seen its support expand to 91 countries and international organisations as of February 23, 2026. Bangladesh, Costa Rica, and Guatemala have recently joined the original 88 signatories, amplifying global consensus on harnessing AI for equitable economic and social progress.
Guided by “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” (welfare for all, happiness for all), the declaration promotes AI development respecting national sovereignty while fostering cooperation around seven “Chakras” (pillars): human capital development, social empowerment, trustworthy systems, energy efficiency, scientific advancement, resource democratization, and economic/social benefits. It builds on voluntary initiatives like the Charter for Democratic Diffusion of AI, Global AI Impact Commons, Trusted AI Commons, and International Network of AI for Science Institutions.
This growing endorsement, from 88 on February 21 to 91, reflects accelerating international alignment post-summit, updating the original PIB release (ID: 2231208). The declaration emphasizes accessible AI tools, open-source approaches, scalable use cases, secure infrastructure, and skilling playbooks to ensure AI serves humanity inclusively.
The momentum underscores India’s leadership in ethical AI governance, positioning it as a bridge for Global South priorities in global forums.
