PM Modi Champions AI for Global Common Good

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, and is urging the world to democratize AI as a tool for inclusion and empowerment, especially for the Global South. He described the era where humans and intelligent systems co-create, co-work, and co-evolve, making work smarter, efficient, and impactful, while calling for collective resolve toward AI for the Global Common Good.
Modi highlighted India’s unique position: not only developing but rapidly adopting new
technologies, backed by the world’s largest tech talent pool. He positioned AI as a
transformative chapter in human history, akin to pivotal turning points shaping civilizations,
multiplying human capabilities. Outlining India’s M.A.N.A.V. vision, Moral and Ethical
Systems, Accountable Governance, National Sovereignty, Accessible and Inclusive, Valid
and Legitimate, he asserted it will safeguard humanity’s welfare in the 21st century.
Drawing parallels with nuclear power, Modi warned AI demands direction: directionless leads to disruption; guided, it solves problems. He advocated open skies for AI innovation under human command, open code for safer models via millions of young minds, and global standards like authenticity labels for digital content akin to nutrition facts to combat
deepfakes. Child safety requires curated, family-guided AI spaces.
India’s resilient ecosystem, from semiconductors to quantum computing, secure data
centres, IT backbone, and startups, makes it a hub for affordable, scalable AI. With diversity, demography, and democracy, success here scales globally: “Design and Develop in India, Deliver to the World, Deliver to Humanity.”
French President Emmanuel Macron praised India’s digital feats: 1.4 billion IDs, 20 billion
monthly payments, 500 million health IDs. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for global AI funds aiding developing nations. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments for real-world insights and multilingual evaluations.
