In a strong endorsement of India’s homegrown technology ecosystem, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw today announced his transition to Zoho, the Indian-made software suite for managing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Announcing his move on social media, Vaishnaw said:
“I am moving to Zoho, our own Swadeshi platform for documents, spreadsheets & presentations. I urge all citizens to join Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s call for Swadeshi by adopting indigenous products & services.”
This endorsement marks a pivotal moment in India’s Digital Swadeshi movement, signaling the government’s growing emphasis on digital sovereignty and data security.
Founded by Sridhar Vembu, Zoho has become a global competitor in enterprise software with over 100 million users worldwide, while keeping its R&D rooted in rural India.
Welcoming the endorsement, Sridhar Vembu stated:
“This is a huge morale boost for our engineers who have been building Zoho for over two decades. We will continue to strive to make India proud.”
The development reinforces the Modi government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in digital technologies. A large-scale shift could deliver significant cost savings, stronger data security, and a boost to India’s tech ecosystem.
