Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Smt. Anupriya Patel delivered a keynote at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 titled “Innovation to Impact: AI as a Public Health Game-Changer”, highlighting AI’s transformative potential for India’s healthcare challenges, including its large population, rural-urban disparities, and dual disease burden.
She emphasized Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “AI for India” as “All-Inclusive Intelligence,” powering tools like the Media Disease Surveillance System for 13 languages trend monitoring with real-time alerts and AI-driven genomic surveillance under the One Health Mission to predict zoonotic outbreaks. Scalable innovations such as AI-enabled handheld X-ray devices and Computer-Aided Detection for TB have improved case detection by 16% and cut adverse treatment outcomes by 27%, supported by AI Centres of Excellence at AIIMS Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, and AIIMS Rishikesh.
Prof. V. K. Paul from NITI Aayog underscored AI’s role in advancing universal health coverage through early diagnosis, surveillance, and policy insights tied to digital infrastructure, while calling for ethical frameworks and collaborations. Shri Roy Jakobs, CEO of Royal Philips, stressed AI’s urgency amid global health strains, focusing on data governance, interoperability, and trust, and commended Ayushman Bharat as a model for scalable solutions with worldwide potential.
The session advocated shifting AI from pilots to nationwide integration via regulations, robust data, and partnerships, augmenting clinicians by automating routine tasks to prioritize empathetic care, with programs like the National Board of Examinations’ AI training preparing doctors for this evolution.
