Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the India AI Impact Summit 2026 on February 18,
2026, describing artificial intelligence as ushering in an era of “hyper progress” with
immense potential to unlock scientific breakthroughs and enable emerging economies like
India to leapfrog developmental stages. He declared no technology has inspired him to
“dream bigger” than AI, calling it the “biggest platform shift of our lifetimes” that promises
accelerated discoveries if harnessed responsibly.
Pichai emphasized India’s extraordinary trajectory in AI, fueled by its thriving
entrepreneurship, diverse language ecosystem, and robust digital public infrastructure,
positioning it as a blueprint for global democratization of the technology. He highlighted rapid
adoption of tools like AI Overviews in Google Search and Gemini app, where Indian users
lead in voice-led queries, underscoring the nation’s optimism and scale. Vizag’s emergence
as a global AI hub, backed by Google’s $15 billion investment, exemplifies this momentum.
Yet, Pichai warned against letting the digital divide evolve into an AI divide, urging
investments in computing infrastructure and connectivity to ensure broad access. AI will
reshape workforces by automating tasks, evolving roles, and spawning new careers,
demanding proactive skilling and adaptation.
Trust forms the bedrock of adoption, he asserted, spotlighting Google’s SynthID for content
verification used by journalists worldwide. Collective action among governments, companies,
and innovators is essential: regulators must set rules addressing risks, while acting as
innovators deploying AI in public services.
Announcing initiatives, Pichai revealed a $30 million global AI research challenge,
“India-America Connect” for bilateral ties, and Google DeepMind’s partnership to bring
generative AI to 10,000 Indian schools. Ahead of his speech, he met Prime Minister
Narendra Modi to discuss collaborations with India’s students and professionals.[5]
Pichai’s vision aligns with the summit’s ethos, advocating bold pursuit of AI’s benefits
through ethical frameworks, urging stakeholders to collaborate for inclusive outcomes.[9] As
India hosts this landmark Global South event, Pichai’s words reinforce its pivotal role in
shaping equitable AI futures.
