The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), under the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, successfully convened SANVAD 2026, Scholars’ Assembly for Next-gen Ventures to Advance their Development, from February 19-21 at ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), New Delhi, as per Press Information Bureau release ID 2231485. Attracting approximately 400 participants, including doctoral scholars, senior scientists, policymakers, academicians, and industry experts, the event focused on elevating Ph.D. research standards, sparking innovation, and cultivating leadership within India’s burgeoning health research landscape.
Designed as a decentralized, rotating platform to deepen ICMR institute collaborations, SANVAD 2026 builds momentum for future editions, with 2027 hosted by ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad. It equips emerging researchers with essential training, interdisciplinary networking, and real-world exposure, bridging gaps between academia, industry, and policy to maximize societal health impacts.
Inaugural addresses by luminaries set a transformative tone: Padma Shri Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta advocated for research rooted in grassroots realities; Dr. Vishwajeet Kumar underscored translating science to community levels; Padma Shri Prof. Kameshwar Prasad highlighted clinical research’s bench-to-bedside journey. A dedicated Health Communication session explored strategic dissemination of scientific findings to shape policy, foster public trust, and catalyze behavioral change beyond mere publications.
The highlight was the Town Hall with Dr. Rajiv Bahl, DHR Secretary and ICMR Director General, who engaged candidly on science-policy synergies, funding landscapes, and investigator programs. He exhorted, “Conduct serious research, avoid ‘tick-box’ efforts, exceed Ph.D. minima, and contribute high-quality papers, manage pressure constructively for sustained excellence.” Industry perspectives from Dr. Keyur Parekh (global health), Dr. Kavita Singh (pharma innovation), Prof. Manoj Dhar (interdisciplinary careers), and Dr. Neeru Saini (post-Ph.D. trajectories) offered invaluable guidance.
Practical workshops covered Systematic Reviews, national repositories like NAMS, ONOS, and INFLIBNET, plus career decision-making frameworks. Participants thrived in “Mindstorm@ICMR” Research Quiz 2026, oral and poster presentations, fostering peer critique and collaborative learning.
NIMR Director Dr. Anup Anvikar hailed SANVAD as a visionary networking catalyst, envisioning its permanence across ICMR institutes to groom scientific trailblazers. The event culminated in a Valedictory and Awards Ceremony, recognizing outstanding contributions.
